Welcoming The Unwelcomed

Today I choose not to fight

or even argue with myself,

nor will I try to chase

unwelcome thoughts away.

Today I’ll simply sit and make some space

for whatever comes.

I’ll listen closely to what is said

and try not to be put off

by the manner of discourse

because hidden underneath

there could be something

I really need to know.

Tell Me, Please

And so it goes, this

endless round of lost and found.

Umbrellas, glasses,

gloves galore, coats, lunch boxes

and even more. Tell

me, please, that there’s a glue

to stick together

kids and stuff before my mind

is lost or my face turns blue.

Sentinels Of Green

In the winter rain

cedar, juniper, and pine

shine amidst trees grown brown or

bare – tall sentinels

of green against a bleak and

barren sky. Perhaps

snow will come, perhaps it won’t

but we know these trees

will hold their green no matter

what the day or season brings.

Lost And Found

At a loss for words,

I ask my granddaughters for

some help. “What should I

write about?” I ask and they

reply, “How about

how wonderful we are or

how the moon reflects

upon the pond or the snow

that’s on the way?” I

consider each suggestion

carefully and then

settle on this unspoken

one for which I find the words.

Unextreme Wisdom?

Not too little, not

too much – just enough – is that

where contentment lies?

Writing Matters

Whether things go wrong or right,

 writing matters.

Just today, with a few strokes of the pen,

I coaxed a slammed door open,

pulled back curtains to let in light,

and took my heart for a walk.

Some Senryu

What ?! Help without an

attitude? My teenager

must be growing up.

Small courtesies, both

received and given, lighten

loads on heavy days.

Soaring

It’s just flow and foam

up here where all straight edges

disappear and I’m

left peacefully to drift in

seamless, shifting space.

Being up in the air leaves

drawing lines to those on ground.

Enriched

A hidden hand scattered gold

all along the road

and left the fields aglitter.

How can I feel poor

surrounded as I am with

 such a natural offering?

This Small Patch Of Earth

This small patch of earth

is more than enough for me,

filled as it is with

rabbits, ravens, raccoons, deer,

hummingbirds and bees,

squirrels and dogs, cats and kids,

and sometimes even skunks.
