Since Spring the leaves

 have watched the birds fly,

and now that it’s fall,

the leaves are ready

to give flying a try.

A lone train whistle

pierces the night,

tearing off the scab covering

her wounded heart.

As he arrives,

she departs.

I wanted to sleep in today,

but Murphy, Knox, and Saphira

insisted I rise even if 

I was unwilling to shine.

As long as one drop

of sweetness remains,

hummingbirds will sing.

moves across the field 

keeping his eye out for trouble

as he pauses from time to time

to sample a leaf or some grass.
