The Hard Part

The hardest part

of my morning walk

is before it even begins..

Once Knox and I step out the door,

all reasons to delay depart

and the day and I are off

to a brand new start.

Balancing Accounts

Today I opened a credit account

to keep track of the positive

things I do. It will help balance

the not so positive things

I know I’ll surely do.

Thoughts On Thoughts

Sometimes my thoughts,

like gray clouds,

block my inner sun,

linger a while, and then move on.

Sometimes they build  into a huge storm,

but I’m  learning to  watch them til they’re gone.

Flying High

While exercising today,

I winged my way to Mexico.

After so many gray days.

it was good to see the sun

even if it was an imaginary one.

The Sky And I

After so many overcast days,

I looked up at the sky

and asked for a smile.

A few minutes later there’s a plop

on my shoulder as the smiling

messenger flew by. Glancing upward,

with gritted teeth I said. “I really

don’t care for your brand of humor.

A Part…Not Apart

We welcomed into our home

the sound of falling rain,

a multitude of bird melodies,

wind rustle, the mooing of distant cows.

At night we fell asleep listening to

the steady trill of crickets and cicadas,

and all because our air conditioner broke

forcing us to open windows that had long been shut.

We discovered how closed off we’d been …

and found failure can bring unexpected openings.

After The Red Alert

 Can’t say I was singing

in the rain, but I did give thanks

that things were better

than the forecast.

No flooding here, the roads were clear

and on Sunday I walked and Knox chased deer.
