The temperature leaped
backward and the sun leaped ahead
as I, out of leaps, crawled out of bed
on this leap day morn.

Rain drops gently fall
from pillows of gray clouds as
the sun stays hidden.

Though the sky was gray,
all along the path tiny
purple flowers bloomed,
offering me a chance to
shift my focus, change my mood.

The Goldilocks in us
keeps trying to find what feels
just right. Sometimes we succeed,
but more often we do not,
and end up feeling tied in “nots”.

I would have had
if only
I had
taken my worries
to the dump
and left them there.

and tiny buds begin to
appear. Like us, they’re
hoping the visit from March
is without bluster and fuss.

Finding the gate to
his fenced in heart, she opened
it with loving care
only to find no one there.

The days sail by, but,
having missed the boat, we stand
on shore lost at sea.
