Sometimes

what we don’t remember

is more important

than what we do –

important enough that

 our bodies quake

and give us a talking to.

In time that tall dead tree

will fall, but for now it stands,

leafless, branches outstretched,

a resting place for weary birds

and frightened squirrels,

purposeful even now.

and that was the first step

Pink tinged morning sky,

small yellow and blue blossoms –

the day’s off to a colorful start.

pause, inhale fully, exhale

joy into the world.

are what we and the world most need.

Recently I learned the neighbors

call me Crazy Dandelion Lady

because those golden nourishers

of bees have been encouraged

to linger on my land. It seems

I’ve made a name for myself

and I couldn’t be more proud.

the call, I soon discovered,

was the lure of squirrels and sticks.
