After all, it is
July and my muse insists
she needs a vacation,
so off she goes to parts unknown,
leaving me wordless and alone.

I wish I could say
I was basking in the sun,
but the truth is
I feel like I’m trapped
in an air fryer.

After a long and tiring day.
when I heard that young boy invite
his grandmother to sit with him
in the grocery cart and saw her
gently shake her head no,
it was all I could do not
to offer to go in her stead.
JDG
Unfortunately,
Knox never met a creature
he didn’t invite
to romp and play as he did
yesterday when we got skunked.

It takes courage to br real.
It feels safer to pretend
to ourselves and to each other.
Thus we hide behind our masks
feeling safe but unseen.
JDG
However fleeting,
unexpected moments of
connection can still bring hope.
JDG
The day was hot and sunny,
but a sudden downpour
brought sighs of relief.
JDG
No sun overhead,
but a tiny yellow bird
sits on the porch rail,
and with a toss of its head,
flings us kernels of delight.
JDG
Judging from the whines
and moans. Knox is filing yet
another complaint
with the universe over
my failure to heed his pleas.
JDG
After a lifetime
of service, it can be hard
to see your best way
to serve is to step aside
and make room for another.
