The sun’s not blazing

and even without a breeze,

the day’s off to a good start.

Knox and I plan a nice, long walk

followed by a lazy afternoon

and, perhaps, even a nap.

that tree has provided shade

and shelter for creatures

both large and small?

the trees, a small deer grazes,

peacefully content for now.

Shadows on the grass,

sun high in the sky,

trees wave goodbye

to morning as,

clouds slide by.

Though I walk without

human companions,

I don’t walk alone.

Knox trots beside me,

trees wave greetings,

sun stakes my shoulders,

wind ruffles my hair,
