Minutes and miles
slowly pass as I travel
through several states to
share memories, stories, laughter,
and time with a dear friend
of over six decades.

Not so far from home
a rooster crows,
claiming responsibility
for the rising of the sun.
JDG
Dazzled by the sun,
that wild honeysuckle
sings out its sweet song,
inviting the Queen Anne’s Lace
and daisies to sing along.
JDG
Now that evening’s come
thunder claps as sky sheds tears
and sun disappears.
JDG
All that glitters
may not be gold,
but those fireflies
arouse memories
of friends and jars,
blinking gold lights,
warm summer nights,
JDG
Distracted by internal ramblings,
she failed to see the sunlight
glittering on the sycamore tree,
to smell the honeysuckle,
to hear the crow’s caw.
It makes you wonder
why she took that afternoon walk.
Was it just to get in her ten thousand steps?
JDG
When you get to be
a certain age, you get stuck
on memory lane.
JDG
Grass, flowers, bushes,
trees and me –
we all welcome the rain.
We need a break
from this record-breaking
summer heat.
JDG
A faithful viewer,
our cat, Murphy, lies abed
watching the antics
of birds and squirrels.
JDG
Out of nowhere, they came,
those three deer. So intent
on crossing the road
to get to the other side,
they almost didn’t arrive.
