With Fall’s arrival
our pace gets quicker to match
the briskness of morning’s air.

Following the disappearing sun,
darkness slowly crept
across the horizon
and was soon joined
by a scattering of stars
and a pale crescent moon
softly wishing us a good night.

Lounging on the couch,
nodding dog on one side.
purring cat on the other –
wordless companions.
evening peace.

I think I know,
but until I know
with my whole being,
body, heart, mind, and spirit,
I don’t fully know.

Speeding through our lives,
we fail to yield to tiny
passing moments of wonder.

Even though temperatures
are forecast to rise,
the gentle fall of leaves today
assures us Autumn
will have the final say.

Knox and I look
at the same thing,
but we each see
something different.
I see something
to throw away.
He sees something
to grab and play.

Birds sound off with
caws and croaks,
chirps and tweets,
honks and hoots,
trills and twitters,
but unlike us,
they don’t sound off
with lies.

The blue blooms linger,
inviting the yellow blooms
to linger too, to join in
this late summer offering
before the days grow cold
and they too must depart.
