Dogs And Men

Chatting with a neighbor –

learned his entertainment

was overhearing me talk

to Knox on our daily walks.

Said it reminded him of

the way his wife talks to him,

especially when he strays

from the path she thinks

he should walk. I said

I hoped he and Knox were grateful

for our thoughtful guidance.

He and Knox looked at each other.

 I swear they winked.

  1. The ending made me laugh. There’s an old movie from probably the 40s or 50s where a mother gives her daughter a dog training guide upon getting married so she can train her new husband. Your poem reminded me of that movie. 🙂
