I know what you mean, Joan. I have several friends that prefer that I use they/them instead of the binary he/she. I so want to honor the pronouns they want to use but after a life centered around writing and/or teaching writing, I have a really difficult time with what verb case to use with a singular “they”. I guess it is worse with French!
