Interspecies Observations

Undeterred by the gently falling summer rain,

they went about their day.

They didn’t wait for the perfect moment,

those hummingbirds and mourning doves,

cardinals and chickadees,

sparrows and jays.

They rested, sang, fed, and flew.

One glanced at me through the window,

cocked its head as if to say,

“What’s with you?”
