A Vast Emptiness

Hard as it is

to look at his empty bed,

I can’t put it away – not yet.

I know the time will come,

but not now.

No need to rush the grieving time. Toby and you shared life for a long time; and, it seemed that he was ever a steadying, loving presence in your household.

I just got caught up on your news. It seems strange, or perhaps not, that the strength of our grief often seems proportional to the strength of our love. In my experience your capacity for love is great, and you have also shared with us your grief, with which all of us who have both loved and lost can resonate. My heart goes out to you, and my thoughts, prayers, and love are truly with you. Love, Dabney
