Both Sides Now

( To my grandson, Ian, upon his graduation from high school )

Your boyish self,

hidden beneath your manly suit,

crisp white shirt and tie,

joyfully burst forth in full

tie-dye splendor on

your way to greet us

at graduation’s end.

I pray you always make space

for both the boy and the man within.
