Someday

I can’t choreograph the birds,

who comes and when,

how long they stay.

All I can do is

lay down the seed,

chase away the cat,

and watch and wait.

Still, I find myself wishing

the tufted titmouse might linger,

the cardinal would move just a little to the right,

those jays wouldn’t put up such a fight.

Someday, I hope to simply sit

and watch both myself and them

with uncorrective curiosity.

  1. What a great goal – “uncorrective curiosity”. Lovely poem, Joan.
