Trees overlooking the highway

stand rooted, limbs

outstretched, watching

the cars speed by.

Whispering among themselves, they

seem to wonder

what the hurry’s

for. These big wheeled 

creatures down below seem to draw 

energy from

a different,

unearthly source.
