A Friend’s Question

As lightning darts across the sky

this night, my friend’s

question flashes

too: “Today when

did you feel most alive?” Moments

from the day spark

the night and bring

an outpouring

of thanks for so much liveliness

unseen before

a friend’s question

brought them to life.

    Thank you Joan, as always.
I particularly like ending with “brought them to life”, which made me think also of “brought them to light”, which made me think of “Life and light to all he brings” from Hark the Herald Angels Sing. There is a Jesuit practice called examen, charmingly presented in a little 73 page book called “Sleeping with Bread” , Holding What Gives You Life, which I’ve found very helpful as a guide along the way.

Perfect! And I, too, thought about Kaye’s question last night as I was watching the lightning flash behind a woolly curtain of clouds… my answer was ” at our meeting”. Thanks Kaye, and thanks Joan. Janie

There’s a lot of rhetoric around ‘what is (one’s) bliss’, and how to ‘find your passion’. This question, asked of one’s self and noted daily, could provide a good blue print for charting these. It feels like an easy thing to do, with potentially revelatory results!

wonderful imagery Joan! I love the liveliness within being alive. I’ll keep the question with me today and perhaps even notice the sensation of aliveness as it is happening! 🙂
