We’re all so busy pouring forth,

we take little in.

What if when the final silence nears

all we  hear

is the sound of our own voice?

Moonlight kisses

partially frozen pond…

I smile and say goodnight.

That small deer came

up to the house and Knox

bounded out to greet him…

Sadly, his mother

wouldn’t let him stay.

No deep thoughts

or profound revelations,

just the simple pleasure

of watching the steady

fall of snow.

They came without my asking,

those small winged creatures,

bringing comfort, removing gloom.

When I chose “open”

as my guiding word for 2024,

I didn’t think the universe

would respond with

the stench of skunk,

the loss of heat,

and the need to quarantine.

 It looks like what my choice opened

was a great  big can of worms.

I discovered my good friends

are really good when

I got mixed up and arrived

a week early for our visit.

Instead of greeting me

with open mouths, they

welcomed me with laughter

and wide open arms.
