Once again Toby
has taken up his station
on the hill and we
no longer worry about
the stealthy move of
wayward trashcans or sudden
alien attacks.
Even deer and possums know
to stay away. Toby’s near.

“Words fail me.” That old
cliché says it all and says
it well as I search
for words to describe this spring’s
vibrant greens. I’m left
with a taunt ringing in my
ears, “A picture’s worth
a thousand words.” I guess it’s
time to lay down my
old familiar pen and get
out another medium.

Seeing those ravens
dance among the buttercups
as that cardinal calls
the tune, I smile even
though the day is wet
and gray. They found something to
dance about and so can I.

If I can turn first
to my own agitated
heart without judgement,
perhaps I can then listen
with an open heart to you.

Just a faint ripple
on the pond and the slightest
breeze amidst the trees…
A soft, slow motion Sunday
helped us get a second wind.

The day is bathed in
sunshine and new green, nature’s
sweet offering to
the bride-to-be. Friends join with
family and we
mark what’s both timeless and new –
the joyful promise of love.

Harsh words – a forest fire
leaving behind scorched earth –
Where do we go from here?
The spark forgotten,
the blaze recalled.
Trudging through the storm of remorse,
hoping to find shelter in compassion.

We volunteered to
bring some color to your yard,
but, sad to say, you’ve
made it quite clear, volunteers
are not really welcome here.

I should have known when
the bees come, the wasps can’t be
far behind. Standing
there, admiring the bees,
I was threatened by
a wasp who was none too pleased
to see me enjoying bees.

They say the planets aligned today will
bring about great
and lasting
change. It’s
too
soon
to tell.
Sometimes change
is slow to show,
but we could really use some outside help.
