This aging business
can be tough, but
with several ungentle
reminders I’m learning
to mind my own business.

Knox gleefully barks,
“I thought Pax was a goner,
but the boy’s come back.”

A solitary
raven sits on the porch rail,
dines, looks around and then leaves.

Leaping ahead can
feel great until you realize
you missed the good parts.

A moment ago
a mother deer and her fawn
dashed across the lawn
pursued by the moon’s slow rise
and an owl’s questioning cry.

The newly born calves
capture my grandson’s heart as
he drives slowly past.

Noisy morning
with the wind shouting at trees,
“I’m not a blowhard!”

On this March day,
may we march lightly forth
with open eyes and kind hearts.

Knox looked sad when
he returned.Apparently
his friend. Pax, was not at home.
