When did passion turn
into longing, heat transform
into silver mist?
Once I pulled at the leash of time,
eager to run in hot pursuit.
Now it is time unleashed that is pursuing me.

Sometimes in the night, dark questions slither
in and out of
consciousness,
poised to
strike.

learned not
to turn toward
them, but toward my
breath instead until their hissing ceases.

bright butterfly, why you crossed
my path today?
Is there some deep meaning here
of nectar waiting
to be tasted?
Or was it simply that you heard
flowers were sweeter across the road?

When disquiet comes
the mind clicks in and even
more trouble begins.
It grinds and grinds out reasons
why, going back to
infancy, rushing ahead
to what-ifs, then-whats,
fearsome possibilities.
Best to train the mind to rest.
