leaves parents wondering how
long before kids go
back to school and kids wondering
how to get the snow to stay.

not find time

might
see a
lesson here
unless they are
so busy they can’t find the time to look.

Airborne colors mixed
with snow’s flurry of white.
One with red wings perched
and peered inside, curious
about those nesting within.

Snow laden branches,
tossed by the wind, shower white
blessings as birds sing.

rumors of winter.

resentment or
anger don’t
help us
meet.

if we
rehearsed our
mood instead ’til
compassion comes and we can speak from peace?

Just when the world seems
drained of color, a cardinal
reminder stops by
and with a nod of its red
head, asks me to look once more.

Those yellow pansies
aren’t deterred by weather. No
matter what, they shine.

Reading Practice
As I read the news this year,
I’ll practice breathing in and breathing out,
opening myself to all that’s there,
remembering the humanity we all share.
It won’t be easy, I confess,
but I will do my very best,
and if, in time, compassion comes,
I’ll offer thanks for heart’s wisdom.
