uneasy solid
feel until that bird drew me
to the spaces in between.

a perfect metaphor
for the gap in myself between
inspiration and manifestation.

just the kind of peace

the winds of thought
grow still and
the mind, at last,
can rest.

plate asked on a day when I
was down, but when I
saw those trees blooming full and pink,
I simply answered, “Beauty”.

Small and radiant
they bloom, unfolding tiny
bits of joy, visible
to those who walk heads down.

Side by side, one in gold,
the other in red –
two trees, reluctant to change,
still cling to their autumn garb
though ruffled by the winds of spring.

Who knew
something that light
could carry so much weight,
something fleeting could last so long,
but what began as a smile sixty
years ago has withstood earthquakes,
tsunamis and long droughts –
a true friendship.
