clouds fill the sky, turning it
prematurely grey.

All this sorting out
has left me out of sorts.
This? That? Why? How?… Pow!

When someone sees the need
concealed beneath
carefully crafted cloaks of competence
and extends a gentle hand,
we are left feeling larger, not smaller,
and possibilities are expanded, not shrunk.

When cleverness pulls us toward unkindness
let’s privately
acknowledge
the wit,
then
shift
to that
within us
which enjoys the
tenderness of connection more than wit.

Sun’s gone; rain’s come –
a muted day unfolds,
bringing needed relief
from too much light and heat.

I grabbed a ride
on that bird’s lilting song
and left my suitcase of blame behind –
a momentary decision
to make music instead of complaints.
