Day’s End

Evening sun filters

gently through the trees, easing

us into the night,

bringing a task-filled day to

a diffuse and restful close.

Simple Start

Early morning walk.

Sun strokes pond.

Dogs explore.

No need to hurry.

 Day begins to wake.

Full Embrace

Not only what was,

not only what might have been,

not only what could be,

not only what is –

but a heart and mind big enough

to include them all.

Morning Run

Skimming the surface,

grey mist circles the pond.

What is it running from?

Name That Tune

At the mention of his name,

our dog Toby leaps up,

eager to accept what he hears

as an invitation to play.

I wonder when we humans

begin to hear

the mention of our names

 as a summons to work

 and quietly disappear.
