Nobody ever told me
I should go to magician school,
but I wish they had because,
like so many of us,
I’m asked to work magic
and produce whatever is needed
out of thin air.

That deer and I exchanged a look.
“Who is the visitor here,”
we asked, “you or I?”

I wonder if birds watch us
just as we watch them.
Would they classify us
according to those who
feed them and those who do not?
Mainly I hope they don’t
