Today’s sun shines bright
and the skies are clear.
Why cover this day’s sun
with tomorrow’s dark clouds
and the forecast of
high winds and heavy rain?
Let’s step outside and enjoy today.

The sun made a brief

us a warm farewell.

Sometimes the weather
is a quick change artist
and leaves us mystified.

We fashion stories
to explain who we are
and how we got that way.
Sometimes we’re heroes.

My cat sits at the open door.
Won’t decide.
Go out?
Stay in?
Minutes pass.
She sits.
I sigh.
Will I close the door
on patience?

Darkened skies herald
the approach of needed rain.
Sunflowers smile.

and meows. I tell her she must wait.
I’m writing a poem, food for the soul.
She meows some more. I keep writing.
She indignantly hisses, “I prefer tuna.”

“It’s good that I have
infinite patience,” God thought.
“Otherwise I would
have washed my hands of these folks
I created long ago.”

Is there something
you want me to know, tiny toads?
First you showed up at my house
and now you’re hanging around work.
Last week you hopped into my office.
Have you forgotten?
We’re supposed to be social distancing.
Can’t you send me an email instead?
