With the scent of

a freshly mowed lawn

in my nostrils

and the lawn’s soft texture

beneath my feet,

I take in beauty

and walk in peace.

He let it be known

he’d been patient long enough

and it was way past time

for him to visit his beloved dog park.

Subtlety is not his strength.

Each tree has its own

shade of green. There’s no fuss

over which shade is best.

Each is firmly rooted in

its own identity.

I find comfort in

the green of plants, shrubs, and trees:

Nature’s remedy.

When I’m angry, sad,

or worried. these rolling hills

I call home, hold me

steady until heart and mind,

body and soul can realign.

She reached for the moon

and almost touched it before

the moon cradled her.

Slowly, ever so slowly,

I’m beginning to see

how I amplify my suffering

weaving stories made up

of “If onlys”.

She always found a way,

even on the darkest of dark roads,

to bring light, love, and laughter

to the journey. She walked with us

through really rough patches

when the winds were howling

and lightning filled the air.

And when the sun broke through

or the full moon rose,

she was there too – sharing

a funny dog video or an inspiring tale.

It’s hard to imagine walking

without her by our side,

diet coke in hand.
