Outside my window
an unplanted tree took root
and grew, providing a trampoline
for squirrels, a resting place for birds,
white blossoms for bees,
and splashes of shade for me.

Fallen branches cleared,
plants watered, birds fed, dog walked –
now with a sigh of
satisfaction, I lean back,
grateful for both work and rest.

No use mowing down
those rebellious buttercups.
They’ll just rise again,
strong and always resilient,
to claim their place on the lawn.

Day breaks free from night
as those owls keep questioning
“Who? Who? Who?” and crows,
cardinals, doves, and bluejays say

There’s less conflict
at the feeder when
most of the seed is gone.
Maybe when stomachs are full,
there’s less appetite for fight.

After many days of brisk winds,
today is suddenly still.
I let that stillness be my guide
and after many days of busyness,
I slow down and softly settle in.

Today I offered
my worries to the clouds above.
Sadly, they declined.
