A Space Too Small

In a lush field of possibilities

a gateless fence of doubt

and fear pens us in.

The ground is bare and hardened

by our anxious pacing … until

one day we realize

the fence is self-constructed

and we begin the slow,

 hard work of disassembling.

That Tree And We

Every year we shape

that tree to our liking

and every year we enjoy

a brief success…then,

 that stubborn tree

reclaims the shape

it wants to be.

Fall Tryouts

It’s

            not

                                                                              a

race

to

                    fall,

     but

                             some

  leaves.

                        have

                                                                              already

                begun.

Granny Goes

Every now and then

a song reaches out and grabs us,

takes us to another time,

another place, and once again

we’re in a friend’s basement

rockin’ to “Let’s Go To The Hop”.
