Mind and body took
a walk this morning and mind
wouldn’t stop talking.

Slowly dying tree,
tiny bits of tender green –
strength in vulnerability

Mr. Personality
spotted a possum
lying under a tree
and, tail wagging,
suggested they run free.
He seemed puzzled when
the possum declined
’cause who wouldn’t play
on a day so fine.
Grabbing a stick,
he headed my way.
At least she’s standing
so maybe she’ll play.

As the sun sets,
green leaves take on
a golden hue
reflecting the gift
the sun has brought.

Today Spring kindly
prepared us for Summer with
sunny skies and just
a slight breeze as temperatures
hovered at ninety degrees.

Reblogged from Mondosedoka, a blog written jointly with my son. One of us writes the opening three lines and the other responds in three lines.
Deep conversations,
supposed to build friendships,
often just foster discord.

If you’re going to
swim in deep waters, make sure
your companion wants to go.
Old, gnarled tree with
fresh, green buds reminds us that
the old can bring forth new too.

We can be so intent
on moving forward
that we fail to see
the value of
taking a step back.

I watch with growing dread
as that small centipede
makes his way along the porch rail.
Almost all the birdseed is gone now
and I fear he’ll soon be gone too.
He approaches first one bird
and then another, but it seems
they don’t fancy centipedes today.
A small flying insect joins the centipede
and the birds fly away.
The birds’ feeding ground is also
these young insects’ playing ground
where they roam safely –
at least today.

When the noise dies down
and what’s left is the silence,
I open myself,
tentatively at first, then
with slowly growing ease,
to whatever has been waiting
to finally be heard.
