Almost every day
begins the same way with Knox,
the cats, and birds making
their needs clear.
In meeting their needs,
my need is also met.

What will come knocking
on the door of my heart today?
I don’t want to be off somewhere
wandering streets of worry.
I want to be home.

sometimes a satisfying fullness comes
and body, mind, and heart are one.

As near as I know,
evergreens don’t judge trees

look askance when they rebud in Spring.
They have no need.
Rooted in themselves, they simply grow.

Pink and blue dance
in Sunday morning sky show.
Knox and I watch as the sun
slowly rises in approval.
