Moon flees Sun’s advances.

“You can’t take me for granted

just because we share the sky.”

On our morning walk

a bird kept calling,

“Cutie, cutie, cutie.”

So touched was I

that when I got home,

I promptly filled

the bird feeder.

I just hope

it wasn’t meant

sarcastically.

It seemed the squirrels and bluejays

had called a Christmas truce,

but it didn’t take long

before wings began to flap

and tails began to thump

as they each laid claim

to our birdseed gift.

Birds sing as squirrels scramble

for the seed on the porch rail.

There’s enough for everyone.

JDG

Words come and go,

and although we try to

chase them down,

often they just can’t be found.

Sometimes it just takes

an understanding smile

or a tail wag or two

to shift our day to a happier hue.

There was some debate,

but in the end the moon fled,

leaving the stage to the sun.

When I casually mentioned

that dishes don’t wash themselves,

they wisely did not say

that’s what grandmothers are for.

It was warm enough

this morning that Knox and I

didn’t mind the rain.

I can’t say I danced, but Knox

did a smooth foxtrot alone.

Though the diner’s soup

was rot, my dear friend’s presence

fed my heart and soul.
