Birds and I awake

The moment after
everything changes – a strange
and sudden stillness,
a stunned confusion – the long
struggle about to begin…
JDG
It looks like it will
be a long wait for the sun
to reappear. Why not
do something unusual
instead and enjoy what’s here?
JDG
Blue Jay stands, head cocked,
among a scattering of
white cherry blossoms.
Looking puzzled, he seems to
ask, “Did I miss the wedding?”.
JDG
When I stray too far
from my center I can take
myself gently by
the hand and, once connected,
begin that long walk toward home.
JDG
Jay chases Cardinal
Cardinal chases squirrel. The cat
waits, ready to pounce.
Dog barks. All flee. The drama
ends fast…and happily.
JDG
Undisturbed, the pond
reflects sky, trees, and soaring
birds and if you pause
to look you’ll also glimpse what
lies just below the surface.
JDG
One person’s excess
is someone else’s normal.
Can we find a way
to have a conversation
that embraces differences?
JDG
After a failure
there is a moment to pause,
to look with clear and
gentle eyes, to assess. to
learn and then to start again.
JDG
If only the road
from intent to action were
more direct instead
of the circuitous route
it takes going through my head.
