Hard storms one day, bright
sun the next – we Virginians
are used to shifts in
politics and weather and
all that comes with climate change.

and safe in a world
that demands conformity
to a predetermined norm?

Things are tidy now.
The median has been cleared
of perennial
volunteers. Still, I’m glad they
had a week to meet and greet.

Not sunny, but not
rainy either – one of those
non definitive,
Spring days -great for learning how
to go with whatever is.

The many storied
lives we lead can result in
strange works of fiction.
Lured by this lore, we might miss
the truth stored in the basement.

It just takes a slight
promise of sun to brighten
the gloom of the day –
another reminder that
neither gold nor gray can stay.

If only it stopped
with “to be or not to be?”
and we weren’t called to
ask additional questions,
those hard ones like how and why.

As the sun begins
to set, she surveys the day
and declares it good,
this granddaughter of mine. Full
and content, she takes her rest.

thing high in the sky?” he asked
after endless days
of grey. We rushed out the door.
There it was – bright, shining sun.
