Kids busy chasing
Pokemon pass blindly by
soaring gulls, wind-tossed
waves, shimmering sunrises,
leaping porpoises, and me.

Was he chasing or
being chased, that small red fox
lying on the road,
unmoving as cars sped by
while the sun crept slowly west?
JDG
Were they singing hymns
to the day or complaining
about the weather,
those birds this morning? Though not
united, their voice was strong.

Before I could seize
the day, the day seized me. Did
it not hear me say
I was master of my fate
and the captain of my soul?

When the heat index
rises, one thing’s for certain –
truth and reason have
been pushed aside as the one
with small hands hits his full stride.

Ancient words from far
away speak to me today:
“The best time to plant
a tree is twenty years ago.
The second best time is now.”

The busy ways of
wasps and bees and hummingbirds
create quite a stir
this lazy, sun-soaked evening.
I sigh, pleased my chores are done.
JDG
Small indulgences –
a nap in the afternoon,
a glass of wine as
the sun sets, a long hot bath,
a rose sachet – large returns.
JDG
Long neglected chores
finally done – what lingers
is satisfaction
joined with perplexion – why on
earth did it take me so long?
JDG
Is it the nature
of eye glasses and car keys
to pick the very
worst moment to play hide and
seek and force us to join in?
