Amidst all the green,
a patch of bright red, fallen
leaves – it’s June. I scan
the trees for a clue to help
solve this natural mystery.

This Sunday instead
of listening to sermons
or breaking news, I
listened to birds singing to
each other – a wordless peace.

Early morning sun
brings a sparkle to the day
as Knox, patrolling
for squirrels, spots a large rabbit
and runs to investigate.
JDG
Over and over
that male woodpecker found
the just right seed for
his wife. Female cardinal nudged
her still oblivious mate.

When fatigue forces
us to slow down, take a break,
get some rest, we can
either fight or float. The choice
is ours. Let’s not rock the boat.
JDG
Over time we grow
blind to accumulations,
inner and outer,
until circumstances force
us to open our eyes and look.
JDG
Fireflies flash warm
greetings as they dart among
the budding bushes
signaling Spring’s departure
and Summer’s soon arrival.
JDG
A moment in time
when the sun eases slowly
past the horizon,
caressing the rain-soaked trees
and Knox and I as we walk.
JDG
Obviously Knox,
the cats, and birds have not heard
Sunday is a day
of rest. They’re telling me it
is time to get a move on.
JDG
Let’s hope it wasn’t
the Easter bunny that Knox
chased away ’cause though
the grandkids are grown they’d miss
their Easter eggs and candy.
