Knox does not waste his
time worrying if there will
be a shortage of
squirrels and sticks. Perhaps I can
learn from all he has to teach.

Knox stands whining at
the door. ever ready to
explore. He has no
use for my lazy ways, not
even on these rainy days.
JDG
I issued myself
a restraining order and
reluctantly held
my tongue much to the relief
of many who know me best.

Though the sky was gray,
all along the path tiny
purple flowers bloomed,
offering me a chance to
shift my focus, change my mood.

Late February
and tiny buds begin to
appear. Like us, they’re
hoping the visit from March
is without bluster and fuss.

We can become so
fixated on the grayness
of the day that we
miss occasional clearings
and shinning moments of light.
JDG
Bed made, dishes done.
Dog, cats, and birds all fed…
a short break before
surveying what’s next in store,
where my footsteps will be led.
JDG
It just took a glimpse,
but that small blue patch among
all those clouds made me
pause and through that opening
joy poured, washing cares away.
JDG
Silently saying
the word, “open”, as I breathe
in and out helps me
slow down, relax and open
to what is right here, right now.
JDG
Damp leaves glistening
in the morning sun announce
the start of a new
day. May we too reflect light
in winter’s recurring gray.
