Pale gray clouds slowly slide
across an even paler sky.
Tiny drops of rain dot my jacket.
Knox sniffs every fallen leaf.
Vultures circle overhead.
Still, my mood is brighter
than the day.

Evening sky,
streaked with pink,
bids the sun goodbye,
greets the moon,
waits for the stars’ passing wink.
JDG
One brown leaf remains.
Except for that the tree is bare.
Leaving home, it seems,
can be hard even for
dry and weathered leaves.

Teachers surround us.
If we would stop and listen,
there’s much to be learned.
JDG
Beneath a blue sky,
fields, still green, sparkle
in the morning sun.
I wouldn’t mind
sparkling too.
JDG
Letting the quiet
seep into my bones even
though I know it cannot stay.
JDG
Light rain falls,
a few birds call,
damp leaves whisper
beneath my feet…
grey peace.
JDG
Ah, the irony
of trying to learn patience
by exercising control…
JDG
Ah, that knock again…
it’s weariness
seeking refuge,
a quiet place
to lay its head.
JDG
Thankfully the sun
is sharing warmth and light and
the birds their many
songs. May we too share warmth,
light and song with each other.
