Amidst all the green,
a patch of bright red, fallen
leaves – it’s June. I scan
the trees for a clue to help
solve this natural mystery.

I smile as
I listen to the laughter
in the living room.
The grandkids bring
it with them when they come.

This Sunday instead
of listening to sermons
or breaking news, I
listened to birds singing to
each other – a wordless peace.

Early morning sun
brings a sparkle to the day
as Knox, patrolling
for squirrels, spots a large rabbit
and runs to investigate.

Over and over

the just right seed for
his wife. Female cardinal nudged
her still oblivious mate.

When fatigue forces
us to slow down, take a break,
get some rest, we can
either fight or float. The choice
is ours. Let’s not rock the boat.

Daisies and clover
give Queen Anne’s Lace a wink,
welcoming her arrival.

Buttercups glisten
in morning dew as birds sing
love songs to one another.

Bunny sits beneath
near-by bush,
watching squirrels
and birds feed.
Is he wondering why
he wasn’t invited?

Began my walk carrying a list
of things that needed to be done,
none of which involved having fun.
Watched Knox sniff the ground,
find a spot, and roll around.
Took a cue from him.
Tossed my list aside.
Joined the bird singalong,
rocked and rolled inside.
Returned home singing
a different song.
