A paw reached over
and tapped my leg,
reminding me
a walk would be
good for both of us.
Who knows what
we might find out there?

A star, reluctant
to say goodbye, still lingers
in the morning sky.

Bed made, dishes done.
Dog, cats, and birds all fed…
a short break before
surveying what’s next in store,
where my footsteps will be led.

After storming around,
it seems January has decided
to leave like a lamb.

Questioning ourselves
is an often unwelcome
but necessary task.
It’s so much easier to
question those rigid others.

Slow softenings,
gentle openings,
make space for
the new amidst
remnants of the old.

Even the clouds lit up
when they met the sun
on this winter day.

A gray day, but warm.
A sunny day, but cold…
Both have their pluses
and minuses
like so many things in life.

Desperate for a walk,
Knox seized the chance
to accompany some
neighborhood walkers home,
but when they failed
to invite him in,
he waited while
they gave me a call.
