seed when sweet nectar abounds
in blossoms nearby.

After the sudden summer storm
the sky lit up in wonderment
to all that lay below.

When we’re self-absorbed,
it’s hard to let others’ pain soak in
so we hang them out to dry.

Searching for the sun,
those trees, some on one side of the road,
some on the other, create an archway
for travelers glad to escape the summer heat.
Perhaps we too, in our search for the light,
could bend enough to join with folks
on the other side and, together, create
a shelter from the heat.

just a few seconds really,
that that wee, yellow
bird dined before those blue jays
arrived and chased her away

don’t even knock.
They just rush in
and take over
until we learn how
to take them gently
by the hand
and show them the door..
