The morning sun sings
a sparkling wakeup song.
Some rise to the occasion;
others do not.

As Murphy the cat
watches, the squirrels sprint across
the porch. One pauses
and looks back at her as though
asking how she likes the show.

the rain may seem like a good
idea but it’s all wet.

Waiting, wondering,
all the what ifs and then whats
pin me down until
I shake myself loose, breathe, look
them in the eye, say “go play”.

An offer of help
lightens my load,
brightens my mood

gray burdened day.

Come, Gaba, come with me
on a stick hunting spree.
I promise there’s
a poem or two among the sticks
awaiting you.

Today I savored
the completion of tasks
long delayed.
For a moment procrastination
was temporarily stayed.

An Unexpected Gift of Beauty and Peace
On a cool, crisp, sun-filled morning,
My friend and I were walking.
As we talked, the state of the world filled us with questions and sadness.
Viruses, wars, injustices.
We had no answers.
Only heaviness of soul.
Suddenly my friend said
“Stop, Look.”
A beautiful and majestic doe was standing behind a bush
Just a few feet away.
We remained motionless and
Took in her beauty.
After several minutes we slowly moved up the path,
Thinking surely she would flee.
She held her place and gave us more
Peace and wonder.
Did she understand what a gift she gave?
Did she feel our awe?
At first I lamented not having my camera.
Then I knew that this was a moment
To be captured only by the heart.

Seems June is trying
to make up for May’s crazy
ways by offering
a just right summer blend of
cooling breeze and sun-filled days.

That tomato plant
is putting on quite a show.
Let’s hope it bears fruit.
