Hate,
light denying kudzu,
insidious invader,
rapidly spreading destroyer,
knows no limits,

Pungent smell of skunk
greets us as the door opens
on this sunlit day.
Knox’s curiosity
tempers my disgust… We walk.

Unpacking days
almost too heavy to carry,
she was grateful for
the unsolicited gift
of a helping hand.

Sunflower seeds or

After sweltering days,
today a soft shiver –
something sweet
after the storm…

has been a quick change artist,
one minute clothed in
dark, tumultuous outfits,
the next in bright, swaying garb.

Big black ant
crosses gravel road.
I hope he finds
what he’s looking for.
JDG
A distant howling –
Knox pricks up his ears
but is soon distracted by
scampering squirrels, enticing sticks –
his version of the nightly news.
JDG
Downpour stops.
Butterfly and hummingbird
find nectar, drink deeply.
No rainbow
Just gold.
