Yesterday’s heat
must have melted
Summer’s heart because

The older I get
the more grateful I am for
small things – things like that
lone yellow flower greeting
the sun as a frog hopped by.

I may not be ready
to dance in the rain,
but I can stand under
an umbrella and maybe
even smile as I watch it fall.

out into the world
depends upon the state
of our bodies, hearts,
and minds – spirit’s
temporary dwelling place.
May we keep them
in good repair for ourselves
and all who visit there.

I held my newborn grandson
in my arms. Last night,
now grown, he celebrated
his birthday with us,
and before leaving,
he reached out and with a smile
he held me.

themselves,telling stories of
earth’s forgotten past.

slowly bleeds into
present, staining the moment,
until, at last, I let go.
