The lingering smell
of skunk spills across the road,
defying the cold.
~
Bare limbs of winter
reach to the bluest of skies
on a sun-kissed day.

The word has gone out –
it’s much warmer inside for
creatures one and all.

After days of rain
the sun burst forth on Christmas,
filling us with light.

back or hem and haw. For them

Day lilies trumpet
summer’s heated arrival.
Pond brings promised cool.

Even the crows grow

Only the bees play.

That weeping willow’s
been in grief so long her green
tresses touch the ground.

dash for empty jars.

Along the roadside
a flash of blue … Drive slowly
Flowers at play.
