but until I know

with my whole being,

body, heart, mind, and spirit,

I don’t fully know.

Even though temperatures

are forecast to rise,

the gentle fall of leaves today

assures us Autumn 

will have the final say.

The dull roar of cars –

going somewhere,

going fast.

What if what we’re looking for

can be found within?

Knox keeps looking at me

trying to understand 

why I never chase squirrels,

race around with a stick in my mouth

or enjoy rolling in wet grass.

I surrender my day

into night’s waiting arms.

Together we sing

a tender song,

bidding my day goodnight.

If they could receive emails,

I’d send a joint one 

to sun, moon, and stars

thanking them for their gift

of unsolicited light.

If we wait for ideal conditions

before we begin,

we probably won’t start.

Why not begin somewhere

between possibility and perfection ?

Sami made is broken,

but even if it can’t be fixed,

I’ll keep it because

it still holds pencils and memories.
