Blue sky and white clouds,
bachelor buttons and Queen Anne’s lace
join together and sing
a summer song of splendor.

They might not
see eye to eye,
but yesterday, Murphy the cat
and Knox the dog
touched noses.

No camouflage here –
that vibrant red cardinal
makes his presence known,
but the other birds at the feeder
seem unimpressed.

On a dark and rainy night
they guided me home,
those two guardian angels
in human form –
my vigilant son and grandson.

working on something,
it is better to
first let it
work on us.

but listening does too.
Both are better
when done with compassion
and a willingness to understand.

Bradford pear and cherry
add their colorful voices
to the surging green
music of Spring.
