In between moments
are difficult
for our impatient selves,
but if we use them
for honest observation
and gentle reflection,
they might tell us
what we need to know.

In between moments

but if we use them

what we need to know.

Many assumptions.
Few questions..
Little understanding.
Broken connection.

A burst of purple
blooms insured our morning walk
wouldn’t be a bust.

In my rush I can
fail to see the beseeching
eyes of Knox. He then
throws in a few pitiful
moans and, if all else fails, barks.
JDG
In his endless quest
for squirrels, Knox stumbled upon
a hive of bees
and quickly fled the scene.
Sometimes in our search for fun
we end up getting stung.
JDG
It seems like just yesterday
he scattered rose petals
at her feet. Today she
scattered them on his grave.
JDG
I have a living alarm clock.
If the cats can’t rally me,
Knox will join them
with his early morning moans.
There’s no snooze button
for this three alarm wake-up machine,
and so I arise and my day begins.
JDG
We have to learn when
to push through and when to rest.
When in doubt, turning
to our bodies rather than
our minds is a better bet.
JDG
Though there was plenty
of food and plenty of space,
some squirrels came
not to dine,
but to pick a fight
which set me to thinking
how like squirrels
we humans can be.
