So glad to be here
to see the sun rise, to hear
the birds sing, to smell
cat poop, to pet Knox’s fur,
to hear grandkids fuss.
to get to complain.
Nothing and everything changed.

On a bouquet of flowers
two figures of cardinals sit,
filling the room
with imagined bird song
and my heart
with gratitude.
JDG
Knox’s joyful welcoming,
full-bodied shivers,
enthusiastic tail wagging,
lets me know he’s glad
I’ve come to my senses
and returned home.
JDG
Though there’s a downside,
I choose to focus on
all the good that’s come
my way since
this unexpected
hospital stay.
JDG
Reminded once more
of the many things I have
to be grateful for.
JDG
The universe must have gotten tired
waiting for me to act
and finally took things into its own hands.
Now instead of one day of rest,
I’ll get at least a week.
JDG
Every day Knox finds
tail-wagging joy and invites
me to find it too.

The sky overhead
has stories to tell about
the clouds’ comings and goings
or so I was told by a little bird.
JDG
Now that the weather
has turned cold, birds and squirrels
have become rapid feeders.
They appear early,
gobble down the seed,
and hang around hoping for more.

Not too long ago.
I showed her how to stack blocks.
Today she showed me how to forward a text…
again.
We both agree she’s a much faster learner.
