Knox gazes upward,
intently watching circling hawks
as they, equally intent,
seem to be watching him.

As the birds gather
in nearby trees waiting for me
to put out their seed,
I thank them for their frequent visits
as feeding them also feeds me.

I assume that tree
wanted to be seen so it
took matters to an extreme
and lay down across our driveway.

Sky’s drama begins
with the fiery entrance
of the sun. The moon
is slowly leaving the stage
as are all the other stars.

Over frosty ground
the call of crows can be heard
summoning the sun.

Misty-eyed sky waits
for the sun to come and share
its dawning delight.

Morning sun kisses
the leaf covered ground as birds
suggest I hurry
and put out their food ’cause rain
is said to be on the way.

Electricity
provides comforts taken for granted
until an eighteen hour power loss
spelled them out for me.
Once that light bulb turned on,
I entered them, letter by letter,
into my gratitude journal in recognition of
my renewed enlightenment.

It may look greener
across the road, but sometimes
it’s also a haven for snakes.
